News #102 - China Market Airlines Add 19 Routes to Europe in January-February, Reflecting Growing Trade Activity

09.03.2025

In the first two months of 2025, a total of 35 new air cargo routes connecting China with various international markets were introduced. Among these, routes to Europe accounted for the largest share, with 19 new connections established, according to data from the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing (CFLP), as reported by China Media Group on Wednesday.

At least 73 round-trip flights have been added weekly, facilitating the transportation of key cargo types such as cross-border e-commerce goods, fresh produce, electronics, and automotive parts, CFLP data indicates.

As global trade dynamics continue to evolve, cross-border e-commerce has emerged as a dominant model, driving increasing demand for expedited deliveries. "This development clearly reflects China's progress in industrial upgrading, as high-tech and high-value-added products gain increasing global recognition," said Li Sheng, Deputy Secretary of the Aviation Logistics Committee at CFLP, in an interview with the Global Times on Wednesday.

Amid shifting international trade patterns, businesses are actively adjusting their sales and distribution strategies to align with emerging demands. The expansion of logistics infrastructure underscores the ability of Chinese enterprises to adapt to global market needs, further solidifying China’s role in the international supply chain, Li added.

Meanwhile, as freight routes to Europe expand, Ezhou Huahu International Airport in Central China's Hubei Province—the first professional cargo hub airport in Asia—launched new routes in January to major European destinations, including Paris, Frankfurt, Budapest, and Milan, according to an official announcement on CFLP’s WeChat account.

These routes primarily transport goods such as cross-border e-commerce products, high-end accessories, precision instruments, electronics, luxury apparel, and fine wines, the post noted.

In addition to Ezhou, cities such as Chengdu in Southwest China’s Sichuan Province and Xi’an in Northwest China’s Shaanxi Province are actively expanding their international air cargo networks. New routes to Amsterdam in the Netherlands and Debrecen in Hungary have been established, further enhancing air logistics channels between China and Europe, the report stated.

"The expansion of air cargo routes to Europe is highly significant, demonstrating both sides’ commitment to strengthening trade relations," said Jian Junbo, Deputy Director of the Center for China-Europe Relations at Fudan University’s Institute of International Studies, in an interview with the Global Times on Wednesday.

Jian emphasized that this trend highlights the deep interdependence between the Chinese and European markets, with European demand for Chinese products remaining robust.

According to data from the General Administration of Customs, China-EU bilateral trade grew by 1.6 percent in 2024.
