Vietnam in top emerging markets of Global competitiveness index for logistics services

Logistics services contributed large proportion in Vietnam's import-export turnover in 2021 to $668.5 billion.

The report from Vietnam Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) showed that Vietnam despite being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic since the beginning of 2020, logistics service industry has shown particularly important role in promoting production and business, contributing to implementation of new generation trade agreements.

Specifically, the logistics industry has made an important contribution in bringing Vietnam's import and export turnover in 2021 to US$668.5 billion, up 22.6% compared to 2020, of which 31 exported items reach over 1 billion USD.

Vietnam's freight volume increased by 17.4% in the period 2017-2021, from 1.38 billion tons in 2017 to 1.63 billion tons in 2021.

The World Bank's report in 2018 assessed that Vietnam's logistics national capacity index ranked 39th out of 160 countries and territories, up 25 positions compared to 2016 and ranked third among ASEAN countries.

Vietnam is also ranked in the top group in emerging markets, the development speed of the logistics industry in Vietnam in recent years has reached about 14-16%, equivalent to about 40-42 billion USD/year.

The National Single Window system connects over 55,000 businesses

According to the report of Vietnam Ministry of Finance (MOF), as of June 30, 2022, the National Single Window has connected more than 55,000 businesses to carry out 249/261 procedures of 13 ministries and branches with nearly 4.95 million records.

Vietnam continues to exchange information on the electronic certificate of origin form D with all 9 ASEAN members; preparing to test the exchange of phytosanitary certificates, discussing solutions for the roadmap of exchanging electronic documents between ASEAN and Japan, China and Korea.

With non-ASEAN partners, the experimental customs declaration information exchange has been completed with the Eurasian Economic Union; in negotiation of the protocol for Exchange of Electronic Certificates of Origin with Korea; in discussion the implementation of the Vietnam-New Zealand Trade Facilitation Agreement.

The implementation of the Vietnam single window continues to receive positive reviews from domestic and foreign enterprises; bringing practical effects to state agencies, businesses, organizations and people.

For specialized inspection, 51/60 lists of goods with HS codes have been issued, accounting for 85% of the plan; promulgate regulations, standards or eliminate the list of group 2 goods and the list of goods licensed to import 22/22 commodity groups.
