1. Vietnam Logistics Forum 2024 Held in Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province
The Vietnam Logistics Forum 2024 will take place over two days, December 1-2, 2024, in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will attend the plenary session of the Forum. Under the theme "Free Trade Zones – A Breakthrough Solution to Boost Logistics Growth," the Forum highlights Vietnam’s encouragement of free trade zone development, aiming to position the country as a logistics powerhouse and contribute to industrialization and modernization during this transformative era.
In his speech at the Forum, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh recognized and praised the significant progress in the logistics sector, which has contributed substantially to the nation’s achievements. However, he also candidly pointed out existing limitations, such as limited awareness of logistics’ role in making Vietnam a global trade hub, high logistics costs, the sector's small scale relative to the economy and global standards, inadequate government capacity in logistics management, underdeveloped logistics enterprises, weak connections between transport modes and warehouses, and insufficient adoption of digital technology across the logistics chain.
Emphasizing the motto "Innovation to Soar High, Reform to Advance, Integration for Development," and considering logistics a strategic choice for national development, the Prime Minister outlined three goals and seven tasks for advancing the logistics sector.
In addition to the plenary session, the Forum will include thematic workshops and a field visit to the Gemalink International Port. Networking activities on the sidelines of the Forum will enable businesses to expand relationships and explore new opportunities.
2. Approval of Investment Policy for North-South High-Speed Railway
On the afternoon of November 30, 2024, the National Assembly voted to approve a resolution on the investment policy for the North-South high-speed railway project.
The project spans approximately 1,541 km, starting at Ngoc Hoi Station in Hanoi and ending at Thu Thiem Station in Ho Chi Minh City, crossing 20 provinces and cities, including Hanoi, Ha Nam, Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan, Dong Nai, and Ho Chi Minh City.
The railway will feature a dual-track gauge of 1,435 mm, a design speed of 350 km/h, a load capacity of 22.5 tons/axle, 23 passenger stations, and five freight stations. The public investment project will use electrified track technology to ensure modernity, synchronization, safety, and efficiency.
3. Da Nang Approved for Pilot Free Trade Zone Development
According to Resolution 136/2024/QH15, the National Assembly has approved Da Nang’s pilot implementation of special mechanisms and policies, notably the establishment of a free trade zone linked to Lien Chieu Port. This aims to attract investment, boost production, commerce, and develop high-quality logistics services in Da Nang.
The decision marks a significant milestone for Da Nang’s economic development and serves as a foundation for drafting laws governing free trade zones in Vietnam, enabling localities with potential and advantages to adopt this model.
4. Vietnam to Host FIATA World Congress 2025
At the 2024 FIATA World Congress in Panama City, Panama, Vietnam, represented by the Vietnam Logistics Business Association (VLA), officially received the hosting rights for the FIATA World Congress 2025 (FWC 2025).
Under the theme "Green and Adaptive Logistics," FWC 2025 will be held from October 6-10, 2025, at the National Convention Center in Hanoi. Dubbed the "Olympics" of the global logistics industry, the event is expected to attract over 1,000 international delegates, offering Vietnam’s logistics sector an opportunity for global promotion and business networking.
5. Second Vietnam International Logistics Exhibition
On August 1, 2024, the Vietnam International Logistics Exhibition 2024 (VILOG 2024), themed "Green Logistics – A Foundation for Sustainable Development," opened at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC) in Ho Chi Minh City. The event features 400 booths representing over 300 companies from 20 countries and territories.
Key sectors showcased include transport and freight forwarding, smart warehousing and cold chains, material handling equipment, logistics technology applications, and industrial and port infrastructure. The exhibition also features thematic seminars on green logistics to foster sustainable strategies in the sector.
6. Connecting Two Ports in Cai Mep Under the "Open Port" Model
On May 24, 2024, the Cai Mep International Terminal (CMIT) and Tan Cang-Cai Mep Thi Vai Terminal (TCTT) officially opened a gate connecting the two ports. This marks a new step in collaborative port operation and development, enhancing efficiency and paving the way for Cai Mep to become a major international transshipment port.
7. Vietnam Hosts "Air Cargo Day" for the First Time
On November 7-8, 2024, Hanoi hosted the Vietnam Air Cargo Day 2024, co-organized by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and VIAExpo, in collaboration with the Vietnam Logistics Business Association (VLA) and the Vietnam Aviation Science and Technology Association (VAAST).
The forum, themed "Securing the Future of Air Cargo: Digitization and Compliance," provided an opportunity for stakeholders to discuss technological advancements, regulatory updates, and strategies for sustainable air cargo development.
8. Opening of Viettel Logistics Park
On December 11, 2024, Viettel Group inaugurated the Viettel Logistics Park in Lang Son, covering 143 hectares with a total investment of nearly VND 3.3 trillion. Designed as an integrated logistics zone, it offers customs clearance, import-export, goods preservation, and serves as a trading hub for e-commerce and agricultural products between Vietnam and China.
9. Launch of Ba Ria - Vung Tau Logistics and Port Association
On December 2, 2024, the Ba Ria - Vung Tau Logistics and Port Association was officially launched during the Vietnam Logistics Forum 2024. This marks the province's first professional association dedicated to logistics, further strengthening its role in regional and national logistics development.
10. Pilot Green Logistics Project Between Hai Phong and Bac Kan
The Hai Phong Logistics Association (HPLA) has partnered with Bac Kan province to explore reforestation potential and pilot a carbon credit model, contributing to Vietnam’s efforts in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting sustainable logistics practices.
