News #132 - Tech Industry Loses $16 Billion Annually to Logistics Disruptions

20.10.2025

A new DP World report shows the global tech industry loses 8% of its logistics value each year due to disruptions

Disruptions in logistics are costing the global technology sector an estimated $16 billion every year, according to new research from DP World.
The study, which surveyed senior leaders at companies across consumer electronics, robotics, hardware, and data centers, found that logistics interruptions now represent about 8% of the overall technology logistics market.

The report also highlights how changing regulations, geopolitical tensions, and trade uncertainty are straining global supply chains. About 91% of surveyed executives said these issues are shaping their supply chain strategies for the next three years.

Recent tariff changes in the U.S. affected 70% of companies in the study, while 68% reported ongoing effects from the global semiconductor shortage.

“Across the global technology supply chain, disruptions directly affect customer experience, brand strength and commercial performance,” said Beat Simon, Chief Operating Officer of DP World Logistics Group. “Our research shows that resilience planning is no longer just about risk management, it’s about ensuring consistent delivery, protecting customer trust and strengthening competitiveness.”

The report found that companies investing in warehousing, international shipping, last-mile delivery, regulatory compliance, and sustainability are more likely to reduce disruption costs by as much as 35% annually.

Still, many tech firms aren’t adequately prepared for disruptions. Half of those surveyed said they lost more than a month of productive time due to supply chain issues, while 17% faced delays lasting up to five months.

Those setbacks have consequences beyond costs: 87% of companies reported more customer complaints, 66% lost contracts, and 59% said disruptions damaged their brand reputation.

DP World’s survey covered 680 senior logistics leaders across eight industries, including 75 executives focused on technology supply chains.

“Today’s technology consumers demand excellence not just from products but from every stage of delivery,” added Rob Choy, Senior Vice President and Technology Vertical Lead at DP World Global. “A single logistics disruption can quickly escalate into brand damage and lost revenue. That’s why it’s vital to work with a partner that combines global reach with deep experience in technology supply chains.”
